Career advancement today is more about the networks you have created as opposed to acquiring skills and academic papers. However, joining the Linkedin networking platform is not a guarantee that you will achieve your career goals. You must develop an effective Linkedin networking strategy that will deliver expected results. Here are building blocks to include in your plan.

Make your profile outstanding. The profile provides a summary of the details you would desire about a person. People rush to the profile to know more about their person of interest. Upon developing interest, a stranger will first check your profile to determine whether you can meet his or her expectations. You need to include information that will help in advancing your career. Such information includes your training background, experience and images of yourself.

Connect with as many people as possible on the network. More people help to increase your expose. This means that more people will know about you and you will also know about more professionals in your circles. If you have a few friends, your chances of finding a suitable working partner reduce significantly. When the network is wide, you can cast your net wider.

Choose people who interactions are valuable. Professional groups and social network site are populated with numerous people. Not everyone on the network will add value to your professional life. People who are ranked high in the professional field are more valuable. They will introduce you to opportunities and hold your hand whenever you need a mentor. However, do not assume the lowly people because they will also grow. However, be selective.

Active participants are noticeable and will stand a better chance at getting clients or jobs. It is through your active participation in debates that you capture the attention of other professionals. Build a brand through quality content. It is not enough to engage people and begin conversations. Activity must not be confused with productivity. You can be very active and engaging yet the engagements do not add any value to your friends. Create content and generate debates that are professionally enchanting. This gives people an idea of your mind. They begin to think of areas where you can engage.

Join professional groups within Linkedin and engage with members there. There are chances of standing out when you stand alone on the platform. However, there is better recognition and quality debate when you join groups. These groups bring people with similar interest together. It is therefore easier to know the intentions of other members and redirect your own. Participate when debates begin and make valuable contributions. You will be easily noticed and your profile will rise.

There are features on the platform that will prove valuable. They include the ability to tag people, start conversations, comment and engage privately, among others. Maximize on these features. While your profile is important, long term engagements are dependent on your skills. You must therefore continually work on these skills to attract long term rewards.
