Useful And Essential Facts About Bender Boards

By Maria Graham

A typical landscape is composed of different areas such as walkways, gardens, flowerbeds, and turf among many others. Each area needs to be separated from the other clearly so as to enhance the beauty of the landscape. The separation of the various areas so as to have clear boarders between them is done using edging materials called bender boards. These boards make just one example of edging materials because there are several others.

These products can be made from a wide range of materials. One of the most commonly used materials is wood. However, there are many other kinds of artificial materials that are designed to look like wood, stone, metal, or other materials. Most boards are made from wood or designed to look like wood because wood offers a natural touch to the landscape.

During installation of an edging material, the first step is to determine the length of edging material required. One may use a thread or similar material to help determine the length of edging material required. Here, the thread is extended along the entire length of the area that needs to be edged. The length of the thread is equivalent to the length of the edging material required. To avoid being inconvenienced, buying extra material is advisable.

While using the thread to estimate the length, one should use stakes to minimize errors. One can easily and cheaply buy the board and stakes from any garden store in the country. Many companies make these products and one should choose quality product to work with. On top of that, the type of edging material chosen should match with the landscape appropriately. Among other factors, the type of soil, colors of the driveway, and type of plants should determine the type of edging material chosen.

Matching the color of the edging material and that of the house, walkway or some other phenomenon on the landscape adds to the harmony. Different sections of the landscape can also be installed with different products if one chooses. This adds to the uniqueness and beauty of the place.

Different manufacturers offer different processes for installing the products that they manufacturer. However, generally, wooden benders need to be soaked in water for several hours before they can be used. This improves the flexibility of the material so that it can bend around tight curves more easily. Soaking may not be necessary for all kinds of edging material and that is why one should follow manufacturer instructions.

After buying the board, one should dig a trench that is at least six inches wide. However, the width can be varied depending on the width of the board. The depth should be slightly more than that of the board. Stakes should be planted every 18 inches to help direct the board during installation. The board should then be planted on the side of the stakes that is facing the lawn.

The board should then be nailed on the stakes at the upper part. The board should sit at least one inch above each stake. When joining boards, one should ensure that they overlap at least one foot. Ends that overlap should be trimmed to ensure that they fit well into each other.
