By Linda Hill

For small gardens and patios, large pots are probably the best solution. If you are interested in this type of gardening, large number of small pots can be perfectly fine, but combining different plants in larger pots always looks more interesting. The explosion of colors will make your time spent in your garden, terrace or nicely decorated patio even more enjoyable.

If you want to put it all on even higher level, there are some other interesting things you might do. For example, you don't have to use boring plain pots, you can decorate your outdoor space with beautiful mosaic garden planters instead. They look really attractive and bring something special in your garden or any other space you want to decorate with luxurious plants. These plants will look even better in appropriate containers.

Mosaic is one really interesting and highly appealing decorative technique. Although some basic earthy and stone colors are usually used for it, there are no special rules for this, and any color combination will do. Simple patterns are effective as well, although they can be sophisticated and complicated as well. It depends on your personal taste, just give it a chance, you will just love it.

Ancient motifs usually included nature mimicking and simple geometrical patterns. You can see similar motifs in ancient Greek and Roman interior decoration, leaves, simple repeating patterns in earthy colors and similar. On the other hand, this method can be used in picturing different scenes. In any case, boring old plant containers will never be the same.

Most people keep different ceramic tile leftovers in their garages. These leftovers may be used in designing lovely plant containers. Small pieces of ceramic tiles, shaped in small squares or in some other form, can usually be bought in garden centers. Small pieces of stone, glass or terracotta can also be successfully used for this particular purpose.

You can achieve wonderful effects with almost no expenses at all. In fact, this might become a perfect little hobby for the whole family. Some old and unattractive plain terracotta pots may be easily transformed into something unique and special, simply using different leftover tiles and ordinary ceramic tile glue. Combining different materials, for example, inserting a few pieces of glass into ceramic tile made composition might look really effective.

Of course, the more elegant and easier solution is to buy beautiful plant containers that meet all your demands. You will find all types of designs, colors and shapes in your nearest garden supply store, and much better choice online. Some of these planters are really a work of art, and you will certainly find something beautiful to decorate your outdoor space.

When it comes to colors, there are no particular rules to follow. Earthy and stone colors are always popular choices, in any possible shade. On the other hand, vivid colors may bring more life onto a small balcony, even in those periods of year when there are no blooming plants there. The choice is yours, and combining lovely planters with luxuriously blooming plants, you just cannot make a mistake.
