Found Materials Make Great Ponte Vedra Beach Home Accessories

By William Gray

People who own a house by the ocean, whether they live in it year round or use it as a vacation getaway, are very lucky. Some people purchase large, multiple story ocean side residences with plenty of room for large families. Others buy cozy cottages that are best suited for one or two inhabitants. Homeowners just south of Jacksonville often pour over style magazines and websites for interesting Ponte Vedra beach home accessories.

It is not unusual for architects and builders to plan homes on the ocean that are full of light and glass. If possible, designers select no, or minimal, window treatments so as not to interfere with the indoor outdoor effect. The hues and tones of its exterior surroundings can be brought inside in wide variety of ways.

Most designers suggest owners paint interior walls in some shade of white, ocean blue, or aqua. A lot of homeowners use a neutral palette for furnishings and accessories. Others incorporate splashes of color into their designs, but are careful to limit their choices to a maximum of three accent colors. Pink, green, coral, and purple make good choices.

Accessorizing with found materials is a wonderful way to incorporate nature into design. The strategic use of driftwood is something designers suggest. How the wood is used is up to the taste of the homeowner, but many love the look of end tables and coffee tables that include driftwood bases. They can be easily topped with glass to make an elegant, interesting, and functional piece of furniture. Various pieces of driftwood can be mounted onto walls to become artwork as well.

Pebbles, starfish, sand dollars, and shells are usually abundant on the beaches of the Atlantic. They are easily retrieved and can be cleaned, dried, and placed in glass jars or added to an existing arrangement. Cleaning these objects will reduce the possibility that they will begin to give off extremely unpleasant odors. Arranging an assortment of these shells, sea horses, and dollars, and photos in a shadowbox can become a focal point in a room.

Ships are obvious accessorizing pieces, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Collectors can create interesting displays with the addition of shelving in a corner or over a mantle. Savvy decorators might decide to incorporate different types of wood associated with boats such as bamboo, teak, and rattan into their decor. Sea grass can also be a great accessory for any nautical theme.

The use of painted and distressed furnishings is common in ocean front houses. They can be used as the principle design element in a room or placed strategically throughout the residence. Glass bottles are an interesting complement to this type of design. They can be strung in the corner of a porch or patio. They can also be turned into wind chimes.

The possible uses of found materials from the ocean edges are limited only by the finder's imagination. The end result may outshine even the most expensive purchased accessory. Accessories created from natural objects are unique and priceless.
