Enjoy Luxury With Fendi Eau De Parfum

By Nancy Brown

A great way to bring some luxury into your life is to invest in a little something by a famous designer. It can be a dress or a blouse or a pair of killer heels. Even a designer scent, for example a Fendi eau de parfum, can make you feel like a million dollars.

The Italian design house's story starts in 1918, when Adele Casagrand decided to open a shop in Rome. She focused on selling goods made of fur or leather. When she got married in 1925, she renamed her store to show her married name. In 1965 design superstar Karl Lagerfeld became the company's creative director and over the years, Fendi has grown into a leading fashion brand loved by celebrities.

Today the fashion house is renowned especially for its leather bags, including the Baguette. This small handbag became all the rage after it was featured on the popular television show 'Sex and the City'. While they produce ready-to-wear fashion collections, it's really accessories that the brand specializes in and you can buy exquisitely crafted shoes, watches, sunglasses, scarves and jewelry sporting the company's instantly recognizable geometric logo.

In 1985, the company decided to branch into the fragrance market by launching their first perfume. This was simply called Fendi and was a floral eau de parfum with a bit of Oriental warmth. Among the notes you can identify when smelling this complex fragrance are bergamot, rosewood, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, patchouli, cedarwood, musk and amber. In the years since, the designer brand launched several new scents, including fragrances for men.

While a concentrated perfume is the strongest version of a scent, an eau de parfum is a more affordable option. Also known as an EDP, it contains in the region of fifteen percent of the oils that make up the scent, mixed into alcohol and pure water. This is still a strong formula and is a good investment because you only need to use a little at a time, making the bottle last for a long time.

A less concentrated version of a fragrance is an eau de toilette. This is also called an EDT. With the scented oils comprising about ten percent of its make-up, it's lighter than an EDP. Its fragrance fades more rapidly, though, so a bottle of EDT won't last you as long as an EDP.

Whether you should opt for an EDP or an EDT depends on more than your budget. A light, refreshing EDT is perfect for warmer weather. An EDP can be a bit too heavy for everyday wear, so it's best to reserve it for special occasions, for the evening or for the colder months. To avoid overdoing it, spray the scent into the air and walk through the mist it forms. This will engulf you in a subtle scent that won't be overpowering.

Devotees of Fendi perfumes were devastated when in 2006 all the existing fragrances were discontinued. This was a decision by the company's new owner, LVMH, who instead focused on releasing new fragrance lines. Luckily you can still find bottles of the discontinued fragrances, including the original eau de parfum, at auctions online, at estate sales and even at charity shops.
