Decorative Concrete Gives Any Property A Distinctive Look

By Ronald Green

The driveway made of concrete will increase the value of your home. At the same time it can be a distinctive entrance. Designs vary from wide to narrow. This is a functional and long lasting material. When decorative concrete is used it can mimic brick, cobblestone or large patterned segments of color.

The plain gray surface can be enhanced by color or have a border that looks like row of bricks. The tinting can be soft or bright as the homeowner prefers. For example, a home with green shutters and roof can have a green driveway to the garage.

Some of the most impressive homes in Kansas City MO have fancy decorative walkways in the yard. They wind through gardens. Having a walkway to match the patio is a lovely way to accentuate the yard.

Walking through the yard to see the flowers need not be difficult after a heavy rain. Your shoes will stay mud free with a garden walkway. Many homeowners enjoy gardening when it is done in raised flowerbeds.

Raised flowerbeds are often made using this decorative material to match the walkway. It too can be tinted to match the color of the home. Stamped concrete is another attractive possibility.

Stamping is done by pressing a form into the surface at exactly the right time prior to the drying period. It can be made to look like brick in any pattern. The segments can be large with variations in each or small to appear as cobblestones.

A red brick pattern is a lovely way to create a patio surface. The patio might be poured in any shape imaginable. There are protective finishes that will give it a shiny look. Placing solar lights along the side will give it a lovely glow after dark.

Stained concrete is another way to obtain a designer look. The color choices are endless. Two types of staining are done. One is acid and the other is water based. Ask the contractor to show samples of how the color looks on actual concrete. Custom color may be requested.

Interior floors are attractive when stained. Rich color will have a variegated look and a shiny patina when finished. Until recently all was done in earthy tones. The choices have been extended to the blues, the greens and even the bright yellows and oranges.

The water based stains generally offer a wider range of colors. Choose from vivid yellow or orange as well as white and black. There is a unique hue to please the most demanding homeowner. Often people want something distinctive and with acid staining it is possible.

A room with deep blue walls between a white concrete floor and a white ceiling will be striking. Hang pictures of snowy scenes or polar bears for a decorator touch. White furniture and a blue area rug will set this room apart from the ordinary.

The patterns to choose from for a recreation room floor or a patio are endless. Match the brick walls of a raised garden bed to the color and pattern of the patio. The sidewalk and porch at the front of the home might be stained, stamped and tinted in a color and pattern that complements the architecture of the house.
