Your Home, Your Office

By Benedict Chapman

Working from home definitely has its perks. But as in all things, it similarly has its share of challenges. For one, you're prone to interruptions everywhere, at any given time. The children will be running around your house for the most part of the day. Other than that, you can also get distracted by household chores which include but aren't limited to sweeping the floor, washing the dishes, mowing the lawn and doing the laundry.

What we've just mentioned are just a few of the many interruptions that make it hard to satisfy the demands of the job you must do from your home. But before you further stress yourself out, let us remind you to find comfort in knowing that you can possibly distance yourself from your home obligations during work hours. You can do so by defining the boundaries of your workspace. Make sure that there is a door or even a movable partition which separates the office from the rest of your house. Keep in mind that the point is to create physical boundaries.

In order to cut on cost, look around the house and see if there are things you can use for your office so that you do not have to buy new ones. Perhaps, there's an extra dining chair that nobody uses. There may be a side table with drawer in the bedroom which can be more effectively utilised to store your files. Your old dresser may be repurposed as a desk too. You get the idea. Do not rush to the stores too quickly without initially checking out the things you already have at home.

Try to setup your office space at a portion of your house that allows natural light and ventilation to come in. Besides providing a nice view and a relaxing atmosphere, you can also save on utility costs by simply keeping the windows open or tying up the curtains instead of turning the aircon and the lights on.

Even just from the few tips we've mentioned, it is already evident that finding workable office Interior design solutions simply requires resourcefulness on your part. The fact that you are working at home already presents itself as an opportunity to save on expenses. Don't surrender that advantage. Reuse and recycle if you should. You may even be amazed by the results of your creativity. Yet if you think you need professional assistance when it comes to conceptualising interior design ideas for your home office, do not hesitate to contact an interior designer.
