Here Is Information On Pull Type Spreaders

By Walter Russell

The modern market is filled several different types of spreaders that people can use to apply granular materials such as seed, fertilizer, and salt on the ground. Good examples of the different kinds of spreaders are push, pull-behind, and hand-held spreaders. The pull-behind spreader is a very great option for people who have large areas of land to cover. On the other hand, hand-held models are usually small in size and are only suitable for small lawns. Here are facts regarding Pull type spreaders.

Push spreaders are better than hand-held models, but they are not particularly suited for large areas. Pushing the equipment for a long time can be very tiring. Pull-behind models are the best because they are usually fixed on tractors, which pull them behind. This makes them convenient and capable of being used on large pieces of land.

Broadcast and drop spreaders are the major classifications of pull-behind spreaders. The broadcast models have a fan which spins when the spreader is pulled. The spreader then sprays the granules in a circular pattern. The materials are usually spread uniformly on the lawn when this model is used. Fertilizer, ice melt, and seed can be applied using this equipment.

On the other hand, materials are dropped to the ground from a hopper when using the drop spreader. In comparison, the drop spreader is more beneficial and efficient as compared to the broadcast spreader. First, this kind of spreader has a high level of accuracy whenever it is used unlike the broadcast model which applies material on a wide area. This makes the broadcast spreader to wasteful as it spreads the material even to areas which should are not supposed to be applied with the material.

Broadcast models apply material in areas beyond the area where the equipment is moving. That means that in case one has flower beds or ponds close by where the fertilizer or seed should not reach, broadcast models cannot guarantee that. In such a case, one should use drop style equipment because it only applies material in places where the spreader moves.

It is very vital to be careful with the material that is used to make the spreader before purchasing it. The durability of the spreader is highly dependent on the material it is made of. The material should be capable of resisting weather elements and corrosion. If the machine has an enclosed gearbox, it means that it cannot be destroyed by elements of weather.

The hitch that the equipment comes with should be compatible with the ATV, mower, or tractor that one intends to use. Different companies make different hitches. That is why one must ensure that the spreader they choose has the right hitch for their tractors, ATV, or mower. The spreader controls should also be located in a place where one can reach them easily from the tractor when driving.

Even if a spreader is of the right material, the kind of care that one provides it with will determine how long it lasts. For instance, after applying material such as ice-melt, it is important to clean the whole device thoroughly. Some materials have a corrosive effect and can reduce the lifespan of the device significantly.
