Why Glass Charger Rentals Are A Good Idea

By Linda Stewart

A good way to celebrate an event is by sharing a nice meal with your family and friends. Silverware, table napkins, tablecloths, and a centerpiece carefully set and coordinated around the dining table always sets the mood right for a good meal. Glass charger rentals can provide unique plates perfect for big occasions and fancy events.

Noblemen and women began using charger plates in the early 1900s. Placed directly below the plate where the food is placed, they are commonly called underplates. Because they are meant to hold silverware rather than food, they usually come in larger sizes than normal plates.

Before, chargers were made shallow enough to be able to hold liquids like soups. Large roasts were also set on chargers during fancy dinner parties where royalty and aristocrats gathered. They can even set the tone for centerpieces during formal gatherings.

Beads and crystals not meant to be ingested are crafted around some charger plates. For those who are concerned about this, there are also some suppliers that make simpler food safe pieces. Decorative ones are appropriate for formal events such as weddings, dinner parties, and business meetings. Other than their decorative purpose, they also have practical functions.

For example, if the serving platter is too hot to maneuver, the guests can simply hold on to the edges of the charger plate and turn it around when they need to. They are also great at keeping the food warm and keeping heat and moisture away from the tablecloth. Moreover, they protect the tablecloth from spills and crumbs.

Each place that uses chargers varies in their etiquette. Some places have the under plate removed even before the food is served for the guests to partake in. Other places keep the under plates in place until after the main course is served especially if they complement the ambiance and design of the area. However, dessert is never served with the chargers around.

More elegant designs include ones made of glass. Some pieces with solid colors like black, red, and electric blue are even available and provide a minimal but striking difference to bland white platters. Most glass designs resemble elements of the sea like pearls and sea sponges. There are even others lined with fold foil to mimic artworks of the Renaissance in Italy. Actually, the options for the designs are limitless.

Acrylic, chrome, and wood are other materials used to create chargers. Manufacturers that aim to deliver environment friendly products make their silverware with sustainable matters. Some are even safe to place in the microwave for maximum convenience. Guaranteed, the material or the paint does not break or spoil the food.

There is likely a charger appropriate for any themed event that you can think of. Many services that offer to teach fine dining etiquette help the hosts of a party to figure out a good placement of the chargers that will complement and enhance the centerpiece, silverware, tablecloth, and the ambiance of the hall. They can cover everything from the fabric overlay to the beverage glasses and the floral arrangements. You would be surprised how much a charger can elevate your dining experience.
