How A Leather Knife Roll Is Made

By Daniel Wilson

Kitchen knives have been commonly used by chefs or a chef wanna be in preparing dishes. Maybe that is why chefs love them. It has become part of their daily activities that they bring these utensils with them.

To deliver them in a safest and most discreet manner, chefs usually keep them in a bag which houses a bunch of these sharp objects. It is known as a leather knife roll. You can buy them from retail stores or find them online. Its structure may look complicated but actually an easy thing to make. The following paragraphs will enumerate the steps on how it was done.

Kitchen knives must be prepared and arranged on your own preference. A pocket must be made. Just make sure there is an extra space available the basic area where the knife itself resides. Decide on the layout that you desire. Then, the basic area is measured according to its width and length. Doing so will help you determine how much leather will be needed. Consider also its length which will be used for covering the blades and handles.

After measuring the areas, the next thing to do is to search for leather or straps. You can either search online or shop on stores. If you want to buy them online, send to them a photo of your layout in order for the seller to provide you further assistance or bring a drawing of your layout if you are planning to go personally to a store. Either way, they help you explain to them about a knife roll that you will be making. You will always be provided a suitable type to use. In choosing one, take note that its size should be exceeded by four hundred percent.

Bring the important tools and equipment for making this leather bag to the table. Some of you might use those that are different from the sources you read on the web or video tutorial that you watched. The important things must be present. These are the sewing needles and glue.

Mockup layout on paper. In this step, a kraft paper is used. It is where you will create an outline of a cowhide. Using a marker pen, follow the shape of a cowhide which is laid down in a paper and cut out the drawing by following its shape.

Finalize its layout or design. Before that, makes some adjustments on it using the mockup copy. You can also arrange the knives to see if they are good enough.

Actual layout. This step is done finalizing the output. In this case, whatever design and layout that you have conceptualized in a paper will come to life. This involves transferring of layouts from paper to leather. An assembling of parts like straps and cutting of pieces of it are involved. Once you are through with the assembling, have these sharp objects be seated in pockets of the finished product. To have it stretched, repeatedly arrange these sharp objects for few days or more.

To assure of security and prevent it to be damaged at early times of usage, make sure that it is properly sewed and glued. Finalize everything. Before doing so, make sure that the knives are properly placed. Make some adjustments on the design if there is any. Speaking of glue, leather glue is much preferred in this case but if you want to use an ordinary, it may be acceptable.
